A new Regulation for electrical safety, which is hoped will makes homes safer was announced on the 29th June 2004 by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and became law on 1st January 2005

Each year on average 10 people die and about 750 are seriously injured in accidents involving unsafe electrical installations in the home. The aim will be to reduce the risk from electrocution in the home and placed electric wiring within the scope of the Building Regulations for the first time.

All Electrical work in dwellings is required to meet the requirements of Part P and Requirements for Electrical Installations B.S. 7671 to do so you must employ a Electrician how is registered on a part P
self-certification scheme or notify your local council building control 3 days before you start work And Pay a Fee

Replacing sockets and light switches or anything else like for like can be carried out by anyone at any time without notifying your Local council

Adding new circuits to their house will have to get Building Control involved or Employ a competent Electrician who is registered with a Part P Self-Certification Scheme.
